Confirmation of connection to main sewer

Hi

Can someone please help me.

I am (hopefully) in the final stages of completing the sale of my house. However the buyers solictor wants confirmation that we are connected to the main sewer.
We have contacted the Water Service, who came out and confirmed via phone that we are indeed connected to the main sewer. He knew this before he even came out, as he was the guy who at the time of the building of my house, was there to ensure that the sewer were connected orginally.
However the problem is that he says that he cant confirm this in writing to me or my solicitor, as the orginal application for connection to the main sewer was back in 2001. Any applications up until 2006 are now in archives, and according to him are in a mess! (The Water Service took over from the Water board in 2006 and then started to computerise records). As a result we cannot get written confirmation to our solicitor.
Therefore we are in diffs, as the buyers solicitor will not let the buyer sign the contract for our house until this is confirmed in writing.
The guy from the water board did say to contact the developer (as he still may have a copy of the original application from 2001) - but to be honest the developer doesnt want to know - as it isnt is problem!!

I have contacted the arcitect to see if they or Building Control in the council could help - but neither were able to.

Does anyone know what I could do, to get this in writing. Any replies would be very much appreciated.

Thanks
