Hi all
Due to a slight oversight ive somehow ended up with about a kilo more apples than i need. What can i do with them?
Can i use them to make pies etc or is it just cooking apples for things like that?
Thanks!

Apple pies usually need sweeter dessert apples, however tart tartin can use eating apples. Very easy to do and one of my quick desserts.
Use a deeper pie/cake tin than for standard apple pie.
Just peel, core and slice apples and arrange in tin, sprinkle with brown sugar and a little cinnamon. Add a few knobs of butter in between.
Then add a layer of ready made flaky pastry over top, trim edges to outside of tin and then tuck in the sides around the apple filling. Put a couple of cuts in the top and brush with milk or beaten egg. Cook in a preheated fairly hot oven. To serve, turn the whole thing over onto a plate and serve with cream or custard. Yum
You can also add them to salads such as waldorf. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

When I have extra eating apples I make apple cake - slice the apples thinly then layer them in a cake tin with a standard sponge cake mix. Finish with a layer of apples. Cook as for a sponge, it can take a few extra minutes in the oven. Sprinkle with icing sugar when it has cooled a bit. It's lovely warm as a pudding or eat as a cake at room temp.0

It;s traditional to use cookers for cooking, as they break down and form a pulp. Eaters tend to retain their shape. I use eating apples for Apple Braid. Link to the recipe
