A glass of ice cold water from the fridge is just perfect. But do i really need to filter my water? Is this a bit of con. At £12 for a box of 3 am I pouring money down the drain? Opinions most welcome as I can't taste the difference. Thanks in advance for any replies.

If you can't taste the difference then don't bother0

depends on your water supply ,here in south yorkshire it has to be filtered as the water comes through lime deposits and is disgusting. i use Asdas own filtering system the filter needs to be changed every 2/3 months unlike every month with Britta and they are a fraction of the cost. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. It depends whether you are in a hard water area. I filter my water because we have very hard water. This stops things like the kettle becoming full of limescale and stops a nasty residue forming on my tea. It is harmless, but not very aesthetically pleasing. Tastewise, I don't notice the difference. If I didn't have hard water, I wouldn't bother with the filters.
Sometimes people aren't sure whether their water is hard. The accumulating limescale (yellow/white deposits) is usually very noticable on showerheads and taps amongst other things.Mortgage, draw down Sept 2014: £222,000

We have very hard water here and we filter all our water as there is a clear difference in taste, but I noticed when in Edinburgh with friends, their water tasted lovely from the tap. So, it really does depend on where you live.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3650

We have to filter our water, it's pretty much undrinkable if we don't as it is packed with lime!We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0

We filter ours, the water is disgusting if not very chemical tasting, even filtered you should see the state of our kettle after a month  I've got the Kenwood filter and can use shops own filters a little bit cheaper than Kenwood ones. Don't know if you can buy shops own for the Britta though.

I filter my water as I notice the difference. I use the Brita Classic filters and pay nowhere near £12 for 3. Just stocked up on a year's supply (12) for £22. If you keep an eye out there is always somewhere offering a promo on them. For example Argos are doing the Maxtra ones (the rectangle new one) for £13.99 for 6. Obviously you can get Boots / Tesco / Kenwood generics even cheaper.0

I bought a water filter when I got my water meter installed. I mainly got it so I would have a nice cold glass of water available without having to run the tap for ages (thus saving water).
After a year or so I stopped buying the filters as I couldn't taste the difference in the water and each time you put a new filter in, you're supposed to flush it through three or four times with a full jug's worth of water, negating the reason I bought it in the first place!
I just use it as a water jug in the fridge now.Are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation? :cool:0
