PS Re the idea of 'consumers' having a voice. Do they mean consumers or middle class pressure groups acting on behalf of consumers?

I'm doing 'Dry July': no drinking alcohol in July - you get sponsored to do it and the money goes to cancer charities (anti not pro-cancer I think) and I put a link to my fundraising thing there. It's been deleted. I've been looking for a good quote to replace it and coincidentally just found one!

It is often people on low incomes who experience the most detriment from poor value, rip-off products (such as PPI). The FSA needs someone to represent all consumers interests and to not allow firms to sell products that are poor value.

I assume you know about the Financial Services Consumer Panel http://www.fs-cp.org.uk/

Its this panel that should have consumer represtaion not the FSA board itself ( have a look at the duties of the members of board boards) - to be honest not sure the place of consumers on the FSA board itself either , these guys should experienced high level executives who know how to get the job done.

that said I applied for a place on this ( consumer) panel about 3 years ago, and did not get a look in- thought I might get a chance being
    1. Consumer myself
    2. small business owner
    3. Sees consumers at coal face of f/s industry
    4. My input here / strong consumer protection focus

Why are WHICH doing this now - are they putting someone forward for recent recruitment for FSA baord non-executives.
( again I did think of applying myself for this .. but not sure my comprehensive school tie is the right colour- instead might do an Economics degree first )

The Consumer panel is consulted by the Board, but has no executive powers to make changes happen. Consumers need someone at the heart of decision making who will consider, and act on, potential policies and decisions that would have a negative impact on consumers

I find it amusing that the one organisation that utterly failed in the run up to the banking crisis the government is now granting more power too.
Please remember other opinions are available.

And the other faction in government want to give more power to the BOE, who have some notable successes of their own.

"Bank of Credit and Commerce International" 1991, being their major production, and who can forget the FSA's 1995 Oscar winning performance starring Nick Leeson in "Barings Bank"

indeed, do what the OP has instructed.
"I can hear you whisperin', children, so I know you're down there. I can feel myself gettin' awful mad. I'm out of patience, children. I'm coming to find you now." - Harry Powell, Night of the Hunter, 1955.
