Any idea why people get refused for CDLs? I'm a bit worried as I'll already have started my course before decision time.

obviously it is credit rating. co-op a bit relaxed and cheaper, i got 9.9% APR, barclays harsh with credit rating and i think higher APR.

Just to update - my son's CDL application was approved by RBS. 80% of fees plus a (very small) contribution towards living costs - total £8,000. They pay the fees in two instalments, I just have to pay the top-up.

No early repayment charges which is great.

And we've just found out that he will receive a £1,000 discount on the fees, so even better.

Oh, I'm actually applying for mine through the Co-Op. I don't suppose my credit rating is that good, possibly because I didn't understand the credit rating system too well (and still don't) a while back and applied for several credit cards at the same time. Who knows. I think they make it up as they go along sometimes

  • I have today, after starting my course been told that the Co-Op are refusing my application based on my credit score even though I can't think of any reasons why it should be bad. I have paid a few bills late in the last few months but other than that I have never had any real problems.

I wanted 10k to pay for a MA in HRM. Though I have started the course, I am still working 4 out of 5 days at work being reluctant to quit until I got the PCDL on the understanding I could have the one day of work off a week while things were in the air.

Having checked the refund policy of the University, I have until 4 weeks from start of the course date (28 Sept -> 26 Oct) within which to quit and not be liable for the fees. I desparately want to do the course and am really enjoying it so far.

What is available to me to secure funds to do the course? I fear applying to Barclays will take me past the cut off date and a major reason I applied to Coop was that they're application was easier - Barclays were requesting a load of ID I don't have with having moved house very recently.
  • Hello!

First Time poster so sorry if this appears in the wrong place!

Just to say - I just got a letter from the Co-op bank saying i cannot get a CDL from them as *I already have an account with them*. This has me completely floored, not least as barclays has a special number you can call for help with applications to them only if you *do* have an account with them. I can't even apply then quit my account if I'm successful - they *will not* consider my application at all.

I'm absolutely raging, not least as I just set up a student account with the co-op (who give a £2000 interest free overdraft to Masters students btw). So I'm off to speak to HSBC tomorrow. So much for ethical banking.

Just as a by-the-by, having dealt with a few banks over the years (I'm a mature student) I have never had such a wretched experience as with co-op in setting up a student account. They just don't care.
  • Hi everyone,

I hope someone can help me here. I wish to study for a distance learning course and obtain a diploma. I would like to apply for a career development loan to cover my living expenses while I study.
However it is so difficult to find any learning provider that is registered for career development loans as a funding for the courses.

Can anyone let me know of any learning providers that they know which accpets career development loans so I can look at their courses. I haven't yet decided on what type of course that I would like to study so if anyone can let me know of any registerd learning provider, I can look into their courses.

    Many thanks

    Yasmin
