Help tracing a policy please?

I separated from my husband a while ago but in 1989 he took out a policy for our son who was 14 at the time. I think it would be an endowment. My son had to sign the policy with his dad. A few years ago he asked my son to give him his bank details so he could put the money into his account but we thought that my son should have signed it so that the money could be released. Now my son has asked his dad if he can have the money and his dad says he doesn't know what he is talking about! Something isn't right and I wondered how we could trace this policy. What are my son's rights as we don't have any written proof of the policy?

Your ex husband could have cashed in the policy. As he would have held it on behalf of your son.

Without any details there's no hope of tracing it.
