Need to stock up on tinned toms
Is this the best deal going?
I like to get the "good" ones, at a cheap price:money:

I agree, find the Tesco Value tinned toms a bit watery and less ripe. I tried the Tratoria Verdi brand from Tesco and was quite impressed, nice red tomatoes and thick juice, made a lovely spag bol.
Usually stock up on Napolina when they're BOGOF tho so half price is a good deal.0 -
i buy the basic sainsburys ones and theyre great. i use them to make pasta sauces and such.
i do find in general tho that the sainsburys basic range is better than most of asda and tescos standard range! oo er0 -
I've just used my first tin of Sainsburys Basics Tin Toms and I'm very impressed with them, used to make spag bol, differently going to be buying them from now on

Agreed that the Tesco Value ones are a bit watery.. but their 'discounter' brand ones aren't bad.
Asda-wise, the Smartprice ones aren't good, but the 'standard' brand ones with chopped garlic are 44p a can and very nice. (Plain ones and herby ones are more expensive, for some reason..)0 -
Lidl do tinned toms for 32p.
different types with added/ herbs/garlic etc. They cook well and don't break down into a wattery mess.0 -
The nicest ones i have found are from farmfoods. At 39p a large tin they aren't mega cheap but very red and juicy. Just made a lovely chilli tomato sauce to go with the veggie grassingtons meatballs i got there 2 for £1 bargain0

Another vote for Sainsbugs basics here - peeled or chopped, both excellent quality. 36p and no need to wait for special offers/BOGOFs on the brand names, either.
My father has always been a bit of a brand snob (his mantra has always been 'you get what you pay for'). For the last 20 years or so he's always been a Napolina stalwart - until I got him some Sainsbugs basics. Now he sees no reason to spend more than 36p. One of the few things we actually agree on, lol.Call me Carmine....
