There has been a drought on for 13 years in Wycheproof in Victoria and people are leaving places like this so schemes have been brought in to rent or (in a few cases) sell people properties very cheaply.
Pretty neat for telecommuting if you can get the internet to work fast enough - very MSE certainly!!!

I love the enthusiastic "600 mtrs to bus stop". As if the bus is still going to run if everyone has left town. Very sad.
Don't think I could cope with living in another tin roofed house though. When the rains do come they are way too noisy.
I have family in QLD and they have their own rainwater harvesting system. Even in a drought they have managed to keep enough water to live on (as well as installing grey water systems). Its sad when they don't have similar with this house. My rels laugh when they visit the UK and hear of us moaning about hosepipe bans.
This is liveable as a house, but not as a farmhouse. Terrible shame.
Edited to add: just read the info from the local history society from the website:
There was limited aboriginal presence in this area, as there was not enough water, and tribal presence was only in good rainfall years, there is quite a lot of evidence to support this.
Clever people Aborigines. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

They'd have to pay me to live there.
And I'm Australian

There's a lot of evidence to suggest that the past 50 years or so were unusually wet in Aus and that the more usual weather pattern is a lot drier than people think.
There may be a lot more houses like this before long.0 -
How much does it cost to buy land in the area & what is the annual average rainfall?
No interest in renting, even at that price, but I would consider buying somewhere, building a massive series of cisterns & solar stills to re-use water & become a mad recluse."Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.0 -

Hi mate! What have you been up to? Off in far flung places again?
Birchip is 35km down the road:

Average annual rainfall is about 370mm.
Land perhaps $20k/ha if cultivated with higher value crops (citrus or vineyards perhaps) and with a water source. Considerably less if one or both of those criteria aren't met I reckon.0 -

Prob better finding some cheap land in europe where water is not a problem to become a crazy recluse in."Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
