Was my wife unfairly dismissed?

My wife was called in the office after she had finished her days work to be told that her work was not up to standard and she was told that she would have to be "let go" There was no inclanation of this happening she worked for the company for 15 months, without a single complaint or a day off,in fact the bosses praised her work only last week!
When she got home there was a letter on the mat hand delivered stating that she was to attend a meeting at 11am that day to discuss it,but as this was at 3.30pm she could not go.There has been no verbal warnings or any written warnings what so ever in the past. She feels that the new accountantant had a vendetta against her for his peronall reasons that are unknown.
What is the best course of action that we can take.
Can she just be instantly dismissed with no prior warning?
Thanks for your help

So at 11am they didn't ask her to attend a meeting, just dismissed her as she finished, or does she finish earlier than 11am?andru wrote:My wife was called in the office after she had finished her days work to be told that her work was not up to standard and she was told that she would have to be "let go" There was no inclanation of this happening she worked for the company for 15 months, without a single complaint or a day off,in fact the bosses praised her work only last week!

Have you thought about asking the CAB ??
They can usually give you some advice or point you in the direction of somebody who can.
I hope you get this sorted

This seems to be totally out of order. I am a manager in a reasonably large organisation and what you descibe seems to be against any employment law I can think of. Does the company have a disciplinary procedure? Your wife will have full emploment rights after 1 year service. Have you tried acas website. I presume she was not in in a Union

It sounds like your wife has been both unfairly dismissed(they do not apear to have a valid reason for dismissal and have not acted reasonably) and wrongfully dismissed (they have breached her contract by not following the proper disciplinery procedure). The first thing your wife will need to do is to apeal against the decision under the employers dismissal/disciplinery procedures. As has been said ACAS will be able to help (08457 474747).0

This case is unbelieveable the EMPLOYER cannot sack your good lady for no reason and without going through the correct verbal and written warning procedure.
