Amazon warranty?

My friend bought a brand new television from Amazon in May 2008, it has broken after just over a year. Is she entitled to any sort of warranty from Amazon? Surely televisions should last a lot longer.

Some branded TV's have a 3 year warranty, a lot of stores like Currys have their own make ones with the standard 1 year warranty. A few places like costco give you a 5 year warranty on TV's/large electricals.
What make was the television? Did your friend buy it from Amazon themselves or one of their marketplace vendors? It should say in the manual/paperwork for the television how long the warranty is. If it is reconditioned/display model/damaged box etc. it could have less than the standard warranty, sometimes you only get a month, sometimes 3 months, although it is possible to also get a whole year. We bought a 32" LCD TV last year from Currys and it has gone wrong 4 times already, we ended up paying £100 for 3 years extra cover as we know full well the TV will die after the guarantee period. They have a huge call out fee after the guarantee runs out. :rolleyes:

depending on how you answer the above, you might have to appraoch the manufacturer and claim under the sale of goods act/ eu warranty rules (2 years)
