Thats not a true VOIP Phone though. As you still need the computer switched on to make calls.
A bargain is only a bargain if you would have brought it anyway!

Unless im mistaken all the voip phones do require you to have your computer switched on.

It is still a "True" voip phone either way, Voip stands for "Voice Over Internet Protocol", doesnt matter whether thats though your computer, straight into your router or any other way.

Not true on your first point if connected via a router since it is an independent device - the whole point of a VoIP phone is that it doesn't require another device to be permanently powered on to support it.

Your second point is quite correct and actually contradicts your first one !

The BT phone connects to the mic and speaker ports on your sound card so is just a glorified speaker and microphone !

Far better off if you want a usuable phone to go for a real VoIP phone such as the Grandstream range.

I bought one a few days ago, it's good for the money, but it's not usb, it still uses your sound card. It's proberly better to buy a usb one of ebay for around £10, they have a keypad so it can be controlled directly, where this one doesn't. I use this at home & I have bought a headset from poundland to use with my laptop, which is great value. I can now get free phone calls from my hotel to home using free wifi.

I was working in Malaysia last week. Before I went I got the Tesco Internet Phone and my wife called me daily on it. Paid for itself the first day, I'd get that instead.
  • Although this is a good price it is not a USB device (plugs into sound card). This unit (£7.87):

is USB and has a built in sound processor.

(also at Maplin for £9.99 http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=48589&doy=7m4&C=SEO&U=Template)
