M&S 'use by' dates

I find the response from M&S amazing! OK so customers do need to check dates - but the stores don't much like it when customers sort through and take stuff with the longest dates from the back of shelves, leaving the shorter dates on the shelf! Makes a mockery of stock rotation. And I don't expect fresh items to have just a few hours left on their 'life' - food is expensive (especially in M&S!) and the stores are crazy if they think customers will happily pay the same high price for food that is nearly out of date. I don't know of any other stores that don't reduce short dated items for a quick sale and if M&S think their reputation sets them above doing this, then they are in for a shock.
In any case, M&S have clearly lost the future custom of several shoppers by their obnoxious response to customer complaints. Do they really think they can afford to alienate their customers, especially in the current economic situation?ELITE 5:2

I *always* grab from the back. If they want to put it out, then I'll take it. Don't see why I should buy 'older' stuff when the products that arrived this morning can be purchased at the same priceStarting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j
