Should I fix my tracker mortgage?

Hi

I have a tracker mortgage with C & G which we took out last November. Should we be thinking about fixing our mortgage rate?

Generally speaking, I would say now is a great time to fix. Fixed rates may never be lower in our lifetimes.

On the other hand, if you are on a collar-free tracker paying about 1%, you would need to fix for a long term to tip things out in your favour. Every month that the base rate stays low means your fix needs to be longer.

When rates rise, I think that they may well rise more slowly than is necessary to prevent mass repossessions. Maybe your tracker will prove to be better thn fixing. Who knows? You could try Mystic Meg?
