My aunt has just given me a bag of cherries from her tree. She does this every year and i haven't the heart to tell her they are really sour. I usually throw them away but this year i can't bare to throw anything away, but what can i do with them?
I can't make jam as i've used up all my jars with the jam i've already made and my DH & DD's won't eat fruit pies....so what can I do with them?

Hi kippers,
What about a cherry liqueur ? There are some good ideas on this thread:
Fresh cherries - how to use?
I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the ideas together.

Thats a brilliant recipe...i'm going to try and make it and give it to my mum at xmas. I've found a bottle of vodka on tecso website for £6.58 (70cl) so that should do nicely.
Thanks again Pink -i've not been around recently due to exams...it's nice to get a reply from you0 -
It's good to see you too kippers. :hello: I wondered where you'd been. The cherry liqueur looks good. I've done similar with plums and raspberries using the tesco value vodka and it works out really well. They make lovely Christmas presents if you decant them into small wine bottles.

You can also make Jamie Olivers brownies and use the cherries in them (yummy).

I'd use them in all sorts of cakes and if possible put some in the freezer for sauces etc when it gets cold again.0 -

In Germany there is a dessert called kirshwalder that my late husband loved ( possibly because Walder was our surname) Its basically cherries soaked in brandy and marinated for a day or so then topped with whipped cream and ice cream and sprinkled with nuts .As neither of us liked Christmas Pud very much I always had this as our special pud at Christmas or birthdays0

Morello cherries are at their very best cooked with plenty of sugar, add a little liqueur, kirsch or brandy if you like (optional), thicken just a touch with corn starch or similar, and then, still warm, pour over vanilla ice cream.......ohh, I'm not much of a dessert person, but for me that's just heaven!"Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0
