Our buyer is with Abbey, we're into our 9th week, and still waiting for the valuation to be done. Its been going on for that long all is set with the solictors to exchange, but cant due to our buyers not having the mortgage offer in.

Its been a complete nightmare to wait this long.
  • I'm in a chain and my buyer is with the Abbey and I'm going with the Abbey. My broker applied online 5th June and the valuation of the property I wish to buy was done in 3 working days, offer followed 1 week later. My buyer applied to the Abbey 1 day after me and we are still waiting for the valuer to contact us and his mortgage offer.

    Where's the logic.
  • Hi Everyone,I'm a newbie here;), But had to post after spending many nights watching the posts about Abbey. I'm waiting patiently with my O/H for a Mortgage Offer, been 3 weeks now, have everything else in place, offer accepted and solicitor ready to go.My mortgage broker put all paperwork to them and still nothing. The Seller is starting to get stressed now and we have had the estate agents phoning us on a daily basis wanting to know where we are at. My Broker tells me hopefully in the next few days but after reading these posts i can see this being a long haul. Nievely i knew the housebuying process was long but didnt think it would be the mortgage offer that would take the longest. Thank you for sharing your stories. Good Luck to you all:hello:

mcb12 - Offer Abbey Buildings Insurance, Get to the front of the que!¬

there are numerous tales of this working on industry forums, I've not tried it as I would find it really difficult to justify recommending a product that offers such poor value for money.
    Happily an ex mortgage broker!

In the esteemed board posters' opinions, if Abbey say that my case is 'in a queue, and will be underwritten today', does that mean it actually WILL, or is that a bare faced, dirty lie?

    Many thanks,

    Matt.
  • I Would like to tell you it's True but Abbey are Struggling big time to keep up with the Demand. My Broker says They offer good products and get an influx of Buyers then are swamped down and can't cope. How long Have you been Waiting? I Think that everytime they come back and request something else they put you back down to the bottom of the queue and it's unbelievable how long some people on here have been waiting. I wish you all a speedy acceptance:)

...only time will tell on that one Matt but I would (fi you have time to wait in the que) keep chasing them. Telling some one who is already annoyed that it will happen today is a good way to get them off the phone I suppose but I obviously hope it does get done, keep us informed.

We sent the paperwork in about two weeks ago. Apparently, it's in a queue; and is to be seen by the underwriters tomorrow.

Have you been pressing them, then? This week? That's shocking!

How quickly did they give you an agreement in principle?

So did you have an offer in principle yourself before making the offer?

Back in Jan/Feb/March we waited 12 weeks for our mortgage offer from Abbey. Our was through a broker and OH self employed so had to provide lots of documents constantly.

Our mortgage with Abbey has went through really quickly. We received our formal mortgage offer a week after our valuation was done. Our valuation was instructed a week after our offer was put in on the property we are buying.

I really think that our broker had a lot to do with it, he is really on the ball and he's worked really hard to make sure that Abbey didn't drag their heels. We can't thank him enough :)
