What can I ask to see...?

Will try and make this as brief as possible.

I had an interview along with 3 others for 2 positions, unfortunately I didn't get the job but from what I've since learnt it would appear that one of the jobs had already been "given" to one of the applicants that had just been made redundant (cheaper than giving them redundancy!).

I've also been told that two of the panel selected me for the job but the other panelist (who was HR) selected the other person. This escalated and was taken up to the big high chief who sided with HR and the job was given to the other person.

I have my interview de-brief coming up with HR and just wondered what level of information I am entitled to see. I dont want this to turn into a witch hunt against the other person, but would just like to know that she got it based on merit and not because of political reasons.

Thanks

Within my company, people who have been "displaced" get priority over other candidates for recruitment.

You will not be able to see any information relating to the other party but could ask for feedback.

Were you applying for another post with the same employer you currently work for?

Yes I was - although it was advertised to the public also.

Same with the company I work for. Priority is always given where loss of employment is at stake. Isn't ideal for you naturally but it would appear to be the most logical option for the company to take if they were worthy of the positions.

Most companies give priority to staff who would otherwise be redundant, provided that they meet the job/person spec, or will do so with reasonable training and in a reasonable timespan.

Take heart from the fact that you obviously did well at the interview, and build on that the next time an opportunity arises. You have done yourself a lot of good so far in terms of your profile, so ask for feedback by all means, but don't ruin it with sour grapes. You never know in the current climate when you might be glad that your employer has a redeployment safety net for its staff.

    Good luck!
