  • Hi all,

Just a quick post as I am knackered and about to fall asleep. Congratulations to aeb.

It's funny that you are talking about bigamy, we had one a couple of generations back as well, he never got caught either, and he's dead now.

Is there one in every family?

Nite nite, will post properly tomorrow. xx

    House feels empty tonight !!!!

DS decided to go out today - don't know how long it's been planned, but he's never been one to go out when he can be playing RPGs on his computer  Went out around noon, and isn't back yet !!! Can't help but wonder if it's at least in part to give him some distraction away from home to stop him worrying about the dog......

Dropped big dog off with vet just before 9am (so DS had to get up on a non-college day to drop GDs off at school, which he wasn't impressed about ;) ), and was told to phone between 2pm & 3pm as he should be post-op by then. Phoned at 3pm to be told he was 'hopefully' next on the list - his turn being seriously delayed due to 2 RTA's. Was also told the vet would call me after the op, rather than me keep calling back.

Finally got a call around 6:30pm - vet said they'd had a major run of emergencies today  Op done, and dog on strong painkillers for another 5 hours or so. Told me to phone around 10am tomorrow for an ETA on release time, but we've agreed I'll call after I finish my stint at school (11:30am). The good news is that the vet is quietly confident they've managed to get all the stones after a sucessful 'back wash' of the one that was stuck yesterday (apparently the catheter now slides in very easily) :T

Now need to wait for the lab results over the type of stone, but he said this normally takes a couple of weeks. In the meantime I can keep him on the food he's been having - which I agree with the vet will probably help him get over the operation, as some food changes can knock his normal eating habits for a few days.

Will hopefully get him back tomorrow afternoon - but DS is at college so it either has to be in time for me to collect, get back home, and then back to school by 3:15pm for pick up, or after I collect GDs from school. I think the latter is actually my preference, as it means I don't have to immediately leave him unsupervised for upwards of 20 mins.

Depending how he is between then and Thursday lunch, I may not even attempt the 'working with children' course...... that would mean leaving him from around 12:30pm for 3 hours !!!!!!!!!

    Much hilarity was had :)

Now, where's the recipe for crab apple jelly (or similar)

Just cut the apples up,chuck them in a pan, cover with water and boil them to oblivion. Then strain the mush through a jelly bag or piece of muslin etc until you get all the liquid. Measure the liquid and add 1 lb of sugar for every pint of juice you end up with, add a couple of tablespoons of lemon juice and boil it all up until you get to setting point.(put a spoonfull on a cold saucer, leave a few minutes then test if it goes wrinkly when you draw a finger across it)pour the hot jelly into warm sterilised jars and seal with a lid straight away.
    Reduce,re-use, recycle.

I do this too but in the pressure cooker as it cuts time down i also add a stick of cinnamon and a star anise too adds a nice spiciness

SL - Re bigamy ...............probably is one in every family, divorce has been around for a while but it was expensive. When a couple separated it was common that they just moved away from the area and married again pretending they had never been married and as marriage banns are only read at the local church it would be unlikely that anyone in the new parish would know of their past marriage....................women with children would often say that their first husband was dead too. fascinating stuff my dad is loving it.

quiet day here due to neck /shoulder probs back at docs tomorrow to review meds might manage some knitting later once my left hand wakes up!

    Hi everyone

I'm still here, will be back to catch up properly shortly but I have a quick question some of you may be able to answer ....... :D

On Ebid (looking to open an account) do you have to accept payment via paypal or can you ask buyers to send cheques/postal orders? Just wondering if it's worth doing as I really don't want to open another paypal account (got fed up with their fees on Ebay ). Not really worth my while if most buyers pay via paypal etc.

Any advice gratefull received :D .

Hope all is well with everyone, will try not to be AWOL in future :o

    Evening everyone.

I seem to be getting into more a routine now, so I'm finding things slightly easier. I'm still not sure about the 9 am til 5pm lectures all the time, but hey ho. There's a lot of stuff to be packed into these three weeks before we start in schools, so I can understand why its that long each day. However, by 3pm I am finding it hard to concentrate, so I'll have to look at why that is.

I have been to Asda this evening. I'm in catered accommdation this year, as that's the only type they offer to Post Grads, which is all fine and good, except that the canteen which serves us doesn't start doing evening meals until next monday, when all the under grads come back too. So, I didn't arrive with much food, just some food and some cereal for breakfast, and then find out that there's no evening meal provided until next week. So, not that impressed, but never mind. So today is not a nsd for me.

It seems pretty quiet on this thread lately, I hope everyone is still with us, and is just having an exciting time in their allotment or whatever.

jtb2412 I dont know about Ebid, sorry :)

    sf xx

Morning Shaz, hope that the trip to the doctor brings up good results!
What are you studying at Uni? Can't remember if you said or not? Just being nosey!!
I am going to see if I can sort out some of the stuff dumped infront of the cupboard under the stairs, when I moved the rooms around. Havent had the energy or the willpower to start it before, but its getting rediculous as when I want something I make a mess trying to find it.! j

  • Hi All

I am busy number crunching still and loving it. Prepping all my figures for next year and setting myself the budget for this year which was already done but I have to tighten it again.

Need to find nearly £800 so off to have a look round the boards re daily clocks and so on, although something tells me it might take quite a while to make £800!!

    Take Care all xxxx
