SF, sorry to hear about your bf's gran.
Hello Missal, welcome to the challenge!
H2B isn't well and the NHS site claims he has swine flu... I'm not entirely sure it's right, but am working from home today rather than potentially spreading it around the office. Must admit it was tempting to go to work to be as far away from the germs as possible - I don't have time to be ill! Feeling fine so far though, hopefully it'll stay that way. I'd found some card to use for the wedding invites, and I was going to go back to the shop today to buy it. Still, it's saved me £5 for a few more days, the invites will just have to wait!Live on £11k in 20110 -
Morning all
I'm off out with the DGK today, I'm using some of the money I earned on Saturday night to top up the other moey I got from amazon & selling my old mobile. Ive made a picnic for us all so all we need to buy will be ice cream, lol.

Hi,
I've just jpined so going to have a crack at the rest of the year.
Thriftylass when you change your baskey from one to the other it doesn't swap, as you said like for like. I done a shop last week with asda and took advantage of their offers was also keeping it cheap so was choosing their smart price stuff. When i got to the end of the shopmy delivery slot had been taken and i desperatley needed the shopping the next day.
I swapped to tesco and the shopping went up by about £15 when i looked at the swaps there was organic, finest .... the lot!! had to go through and change them for the offers and tesco value and the prices turned out about the same (a few quid more actually) but i got my delivery slot!
Hope that helped, probably some people would jusk ahh it's only £15 and couldn't be bothered to faff about swapping stuff ( i know a few people as an example!)

I'm not a member this year, but I pick up loads of tips from here, the grocery challenge, the preparing for winter, and half a dozen other ones. I reckon I am saving as I spend my time on here instead of out spending! When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0

Hi Missal! :hello: Welcome!
Yep... mysupermarkets comparisons are kinda dodgy! You would think value stuff would equate to basics/smattprice etc but no... It seems kind of random. I do check it still but tend to use the search function more instead or the different catagories.
Sorry to hear about the possible swine flu Lynda. I hope he gets better quickly whatever it is.

Hello everyone from a very sunny and hot Kathmandu! Unfortunately we haven't enjoyed it yet as OH has been researching his project and I've been here with him not feeling too special all day. Still it's a lovely Wi-fi cafe and the loos are reasonable
Hope everyone is well, no time to read now as we ended up only bringing out one laptop so OH has priority at mo. Yesterday we went to the orphanage to run tests for a possible hydro-electric pump he wants to build. I'm still in the process of sorting out my timetable for school but hopefully won't be too long before I start.
I've decided to keep my blog private rather than open access on the net so if you're interested, please PM me. Love to you all, happy frugalling! xx

(these might be cherrys they have a much smaller leaf than above but a similair size maybe a little smaller)
and there were lots of these but i didn't pick any (not sure about these)
I also managed to pick 2 buckets of various apples some like golden delicious some red and some russet some taste ok raw some quite sour

for example i personally
use comparison sites
use cashback sites
use cashback credit cards
stooze(see martins guide)
bulk buy basic foods like flour and rice
use mysupermarket to compare grocery prices
bake cakes and biscuits
grow veggies
sell books on amazon/green metropolis
play free bingo scratchcards
joined an online lets group
use freecycle
skip dive(much to my families dismay)
forage wild foods
etc etc
What do you think?
Great idea, Shaz, except that this challenge is simply about operating a budget (originally £4,000), so the basics are already included at the start of each new quarter of each challenge. These basics are simple - work out how much you have left (over a year) after paying out everything that HAS to be paid and then live off whatever is left without running up debts. Anything extra goes towards reducing debts quicker or, if you have no debts, it goes into a savings pot to pay for wants rather than needs. We each have our own methods of dealing with our own budgets and not all of them are suitable for everyone. Some things, like home baking, preserving and veggie growing, can be quite a costly exercise for someone who has a multitude of debts and very little money, likewise going foraging is impossible if you live in the middle of a town. The section of the challenge that deals with earning a little bit extra free money is already linked via the handy links.
I've now updated the first post so there's a direct link to the current £1000 in 100 days challenge. As always, anyone with handly links that they think we should have, please let me know so I can add them.I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.
