CSA advice please

Hmmmmm an odd thing happened today.
Last week DH rang CSA and said he wanted to make the payments through them to avoid arguments and disagreements between him and PWC over whether money had or hadn't been paid. Bloke said fine, would amend record to reflect this, and gave him the standing order details for CSA to enable him to make payments. DH immediately set this up and paid the lump sum payment dated back to the beginning of the claim to current week, then set up standing order for weekly payments to CSA at £7 a week.
Today he received a cheque for the total of the lump sum payment. He received a letter separately saying they owed him a refund of child maintenance payments as he had overpaid. The amount of the overpayment was £xxx (same amount as the payment he made to them).
There was no explanation as to why he would be entitled to the refund. So we are puzzled.
I have advised DH to cash the cheque and transfer to his savings account in case they request it back, wait and see what happens next week with his weekly payment (due out of his bank tomorrow) and if that is 'refunded' as well, then contact them and query it.

I haven't sorry, but I think it's very wise to cash it and keep it for when they (inevitably) ask for it back.August GC 10th - 10th : £200 / £70.61
