Advice needed for a friend

Hi, a friend of mine is in a bit of a situation, which just yesterday has got a lot worse.
Bear with me, and I'll explain. My friend married her childhood sweetheart, and they have two daughters. However, he has been seeing another woman for a good few years, and as a result of a Christmas card arriving for her husband and his girlfriend to the family home in 2007, they are now seperated. He has always been very cagey about money, as well as a lot of other things, and when the split came, he wouldn't say what he had or disclose anything. He managed to persuade my friend that solicitors would only end up costing them a lot of money / bother etc, and she foolishly agreed to this, although she has since engaged a solicitor. Her ex's address / job (he worked for his brother, and conveniently got paid off when it came to paying for his kids) / basically all details have remained a mystery.
The house remains in their joint names, despite earnest promises from him that he would sign it over to her.
Yesterday, he arrived at the door to tell my friend that he has been declared bankrupt. She is now panicking that the house will be looked on as part of his assets, and that she and the children will be homeless. (Last months exciting installment involved his girlfriend having a baby, and him asking my friend if they had any baby clothes left over from their two children, so this guy is a real prince)
Could anyone shed some light on this situation, if possible, so I can at least let he know what will probably happen? If it makes any difference legally, all of this is in Northern Ireland.
Sorry for the long post, and thanks for any and all help.
