unfair dismissal ?

my husband has been made redundant and has been messed around for the last 12 mths in his job (a very long story) and would like to go for unfair dismissal. Does anyone know whether he would have a better chance if he used a decent solicitor and paid for it or should we use the law society which is free. People keep telling us that the 'free' one won't do as good a job - very confusing !

How long was he employed?
What are the corumstances around his dismissal?
If he was there less than 12 months he has very little employment rights.

I think you are a bit confused - the Law Society will not represent you, they represent solicitors! Can you clarify what you mean?Gone ... or have I?0

When i was made redundant and thought it was unfair dismissal, i went for advice to the local Acas office, we did'nt have a union
It was a simple process to go to a tribunal, i went alone without any legal backing, and won.
The tribunal consists of three 'judges', one is a qualified solicitor or such, the other 'laymen' one basically on my side the other on the companies side.
Because you have no legal knowledge they are very helpful not att all intimadating
My advice would be go to your mearest Acas office, or even the CABLiverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

I think first of all you need to find out if he really has a legal case. Just because you are convinced it is the case does not mean it is so in the eyes of the law. Before you spend money on a solicitor, it would be better to find out whether a legal professional thinks there is any case.
Many solicitors offer a 30min free initial consultation. I would try contacting one who offers that sort of service. Hopefully you will discover if it is worth proceeding or not before you have spent any money.0 -
was there 3 yrs, moved him 3 times to different jobs, reduced his salary then moved him back to his original job but kept him on the reduced salary, plus plenty more !0

None of the panel members are on 'sides', rather they have a background that will give them more of a specialist insight into one side than the other. This does not make them biased in any way.Gone ... or have I?0 -
