DIY facial

Hi all,
My skin's getting bad in the heat (big pores, whiteheads, generally ick) and I found myself considering spending £50-60 on a deep cleansing facial the other day
Then I remembered the last one I had a facial I was really disappointed and I had sworn to just do it myself next time!!
So I'm looking for any tips, routines, techniques.... anything appreciated

Have you tried your local beauty colleges? I normally go there for facials, they cost around £8 for the basic which includes cleansing, exfoliation, steaming, blackhead removal and mask. They do take a while though and you can choose the level i.e. trainee or almost qualified.
If you don't have any beauty colleges nearby you could try exfoliation, then steam for around 10 mins and a mask. I've found the clay mask by simple really good and also easy to use .
I'm also looking for tips so if any one else can contribute...0 -
I've not actually done this in ages, but i find using a Montagne Jeunesse sauna mask(it heats up by itself!) followed by a nose pore strip is a great way to get rid of blackheads from my nose!Owing to financial constraints, the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off until further notice.

Routine is:
Cleanse x 2 - First cleanse to remove make-up/surface debris, second to clean the skin
Exfoliate - If you have sensitive skin or very greasy, use a gentle, chemical exfoliant. Otherwise you can use whichever you prefer, be it chemical or manual. If you're using a chemical exfoliant, they're usually left of for around 10 minutes, manual is removed straight away.
Massage - This is what makes you look very refreshed and really gets your blood going properly. It also helps to gentle slough off the last of the dead skin cells. This is generally performed for around 20 minutes. Lots of sweeping, drainage movements, and never drag the skin downwards - only upwards.
Mask - Something to suit your skin type, generally left on for 8-10 minutes.
Moisturise.
If you want, you can also steam your face, either before or after the massage.

I've been getting tiresome spots on either side of my chin and along my jaw - deep, not painful, but unsightly, pustules (bleh)
Any suggestions for focussing on this area? Will exfoliating do it or do I need to draw them out? Is it because I lean my chin on my hands? My TV is broken!

Look for the kind of clay mask that has cooling effects (with mint essence i think) not only will it literally cool you off, but also constrict the blood vessels. or try rubbing your face with ice cubes at night to lessen the redness.0
