Cant decide on date!!

I have seen a venue i really like, where i will have my wedding & reception but i cant decide on what date.
I have the option of November or August/September. The summer dates are priced at £800 more than the november dates as you get a 40% discount, i just dont know whether it is worth paying the extra for hopefully some sun or saving the money and spending it elsewhere on the wedding. In november there may be 2 weddings each day while in Summer there can be 3, i dont think you really see much of the other guests tho.

What does everyone think?

It is initially up to you - as only you and h2b can make the choice, but....

I would be inclinded to go for the November date as £800 is a big saving that could be spent elsewhere plus it has less weddings taking place, plus as it is low season you should find most things like cars, photographer etc are cheaper too.

We chose to get married in April as we still got discounted rates on most things as we found alot of suppliers class April as 'off peak' plus there is a slight chance the sun might actually shine...heres hoping

A few things to think over to help you decide.....
    • How much would you save depending on what month you choose?
    • How much do you need to save and how would this break down per month until the date you want?
    • Do the dates maybe help give you time to save?
    • Does the venue have outside space you want to use, as you may want the better months to hope for good weather?
    • Is there somewhere you want to go on honeymoon and it there a best time to visit? (e.g. Caribbean has seasons)
    • Is there anything you have your heart set on? Photographer, band etc as you may want to check what dates they have available of your choices?
    • Is it a civil ceremony? Dates for registrar are booked 12 months in advance. Call to check if the dates are free but also what times they have - they may only be able to do 12.30 or 3pm for example and you may want 2pm....
    • Would it bother you to wear a wrap or jacket etc in the winter months if you choose November?
    • Do any dates affect any of your guests coming? Holidays etc?
    • Is the Nov date at the end? Might xmas tree etc already be up, and would that bother you?

I have to say if it were me I would go for the November date and save myself £800. However, I would echo what others have said about it being up to you and what the most important factors for your wedding are.

I think winter weddings are beautiful and you run less risk of guests not being able to attend 'because they have another wedding on that day'.

Lots of things to consider and Mooky has given some good pointers in her post for you to think about.

As far as the weather goes, yes it will be colder in November but you have as much chance of it being sunny then as you would in the summer (and it's probably less likely to be raining!)
  • I'd go for November and save the cash, but if it's close to the end of the month I'd get 'save the date' cards out quick sharp as some places have Christmas parties in late November and you obviously don't want to clash!

Also when you say dates, are we talking Saturdays? And is there no way you could perhaps move it to a Friday or Sunday? I ask because there might be more availability then (and it could also be cheaper still than a Saturday) is all...

Go for November and put £800 towards a honeymoon, and get a week or two of sun instead of one day.

You're not going to be guaranteed a sunny day in August/September anyway, and you might get some lovely winter sunshine in November!
