Hi Hester! I know what you mean about comfort eating! i have a 17 month old and a 3.5 year old and even though I work a day and a bit, I still get fed up at home and especially the afternoons waiting for DH to come home, I end up having tea with the boys and another one with hubby!
i too am trying to cut back, and have already realised it's non-food stuff rather than food that is my problem.
Good luck with it all!! :j

I think treating tomorrow as the New Year is an excellent idea. If it's good enough for the financial *experts* then it certainly is for MSE'rs.

With Spring well under way, the season of salads and generally healthier eating is upon us, so that's a bonus to start with. Can you grow a few tomato plants somewhere if you have a garden or a sunlit balcony? It all helps.

Your heating costs will be lower too, and you'll be able to get out and about for walks in the park or other cheap or free activities, rather than huddling over the fire.

I also find the need to buy clothes is greatly reduced in the warmer months, because generally speaking I've only worn the ones I have for a few weeks of the year, whereas the cold weather clothes get worn almost continuously.

Sounds good to me - I'm on board for a New Year resolution or two ;).
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

I've found that just making sure I keep reading Old Style .. even when I don't really have something to contribute, really helps me to try and stay frugal. Everyone has such great ideas. It has really helped me pull in my belt and get to grips with not spending for spendings sake. I really think I had an additiction to buying things because it made me feel good. I now really appreciate the small things I can really afford (e.g. saving to pay cash for a yoghurt maker and not putting it on a credit card).

We are having an expensive time at the moment ... repairs to vehicle, dental work, glasses ... but we keep on going because MSE has taught us that we can manage if we really try (though at times it does seem as if life is against us ).

I intend to keep on going and a new year is new challenges. I bet this board has lots more ideas to give us all! It's the best support network of all ... OK we sometimes fail, but it's because we are human. How many times have we seen OS's pick themselves up and dust themselves down and start again ;)
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D
