If it's something that's spread on it like cheese spread or chocolate spread then he usually will eat it.
But if it's meat or cheese then he'll take the sandwich apart and only eat the filling and a bit of the bread if I keep telling him to eat it.
If I do cheese on toast he will eat most of it as well.
I've tried giving him lots of things on a plate - a bit like a ploughman's lunch - but he eats everything else and leaves the bread.
I've tried breadsticks too without success - infact he didn't want to eat them at all!
If anyone has any ideas then I will be eternally grateful

You should never call somebody else a nerd or geek because everybody (even YOU !!!) is an
"anorak" about something whether it's trains, computers, football, shoes or celebs

Have you tried pita bread?0

My two were just the same! I used to give them what they called "picky" lunches - a plate with grapes, raisins, pieces of ham, cubes of cheese, hard-boiled eggs, crackers or breadsticks etc. My DD is 9 now and she still isn't keen on sandwiches so she takes a version of the "picky" in a lunchbox to school.0

Maybe he doesnt like the texture of the bread.
Instead of bread, could you do a load of veggie sticks, with cheesey dips or cold pastas/rice with veggies in?Kent Bird!:beer:0 -
yep - mine used to at that age. I think it's quite common - if he's having sliced white it may be that it sticks to his palate in a lump and feels weird to him. If he likes cheese you could try those soft buns with cheese on the top. As skiTTish said, pittas as bread in a different form if you really feel he should have bread, or rolled up wraps. When my boy went off fruit we had a game where we visited the greengrocer once a week especially for him to choose one unusual fruit to try - this went down well as he was 'in charge'. you could try that at the bakers or supermarket counter as they have loads of different styles and shapes now. We did the same thing with cheeses/fish/cooked meat over the years and he tried things he never would have if I'd chosen them for him. He's now 9 and a very adventurous eater - except for mushrooms and mushy peas so I guess he really doesn't like them!
You might find he'll just grow out of it - I'm sure if you ask there will be a thread somewhere that gives alternatives for packed lunch type food that would help if you want alternatives.
Good luck0 -
Hi Mics_chick,
I have one who isn't mad about sandwiches and rolls so I give him the fillings with crackers or in wraps and pita bread. Other good alternatives are pasta salads, quiche, savoury scones and muffins, sausage rolls etc.
There's an earlier thread with lots of ideas for lunchboxes that should help:
back to school packed lunch os ideas?
I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.
