Ikea Pax Wardrobes

Hi,
I know from searching the forums that many members have Pax wardrobes. I wonder if any of you have fitted them when they go right up to the ceiling? The wardrobe is 236cm tall, their website states minimum height required 237cm and my ceilings are 238cm which in theory should be okay but ex-hubby who will fit them has said he will need to assemble them upright as if laid flat it would of course be imposible to lift them up. Has anyone fitted them when the sizes are this tight? I`d love the extra storage but as the song says...`there may be trouble ahead.....` lol.

Yip, we did this. Our ceiling was a smidgeon over 237cm and I will admit to many anxious moments during the installation process.
As your ex says, they had to be built standing up and then kinda pushed back into place. Not the easiest thing in the world to do, but do-able nonetheless.
Definitely a two person job though, it would be impossible to try to support the unit whilst trying to fit the top for example if he was by himself.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Thanks for the quick reply - I feel much happier to order now that I know someone has actually successfully done it.0

Hi, having built many ikea products over the years, they do have to be built as he said
Easiest way to do it is to attach one side to top an bottom while lying down then with two people lift up, one person needs to hole the top while the other slots in the side
or again attach two sides to the bottom panel while lying down then stand up to attach the top
The instructions tell you to half build it then stand up
I'm sure you'll only fight a little when building them....... its compulsory to fight over self build things anyway :rotfl:0 -
You dont have the space to lift the unit up when headroom is so tight, you have to do it standing up.
One other thing...have you measured your ceiling height in several places? We have one room in particular that has wildly different measurements depending on where you stand.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Yes, ex-hubby is a carpenter so checked the ceiling a few places, the 238cm was the lowest part..... I bet the air will be be blue when we are putting them together! Will have to sooth him with a nice roast dinner afterward.0

Its normally easy to lift even when tight as its easier and lighter to maneuver with only one side and bottom attached
Although if you have strong arms and a ton of patience do it all upright0
