Orecchiette pasta

I have a JO (Jamie Oliver) recipe that requires Orecchiette pasta.

The only place I can find this is Waitrose & its £2.49 for a small 500g bag:eek:

I've always thought all pasta was the same, just different shapes? I realise there are good brands & basic brands, but within these brands all the same?

Anyone know anywhere cheaper to get Orecchiette pasta?

I think pastas are different shapes due to what sauce they have to "hold". I don't think it would make to much difference if you used a different shape of pasta. Looking at the shape of it I would have thought pasta shells would do a similar job???

Little ears :D This shape is quite easy to make. Different shapes are indicated in recipes as they hold the sauce in different ways. I'd substitute farfalle (butterflies ;) ).

Hi, here is a link for a place that sells that pasta for £1.45 for 500g. Never shopped on this site but might be worth a look.

    Anyone tried it?
Is it worth £2.49 for a small bag?

I think M&S sell this. At the moment they sell pasta + 2 ciabatta + jar of sauce for £5. Last Saturday I managed to save almost £2 by buying the three items together. ( I bought the carbonara sauce which was very tasty and I rarely buy jars of sauce). I think the pasta is about £1.29.

    Morrisons do this.

It was on offer at 2 packs for £2, but I think that might have finished.

In a grey and black box, part of the 'Best' range.

    HTH.
