How long do we have to wait?

Hi, we applied for a remortgage with the abbey , we are currently with halifax, we applied about three weeks ago ,and we are still waiting for an answer , they are saying that they have not done the credit search , and were supposed to ring us last tuesday but we still haven,t heard .
is this normal for abbey , i really dont understand why it is taking so long ,as i,m sure a credit search does not take weeks .
anyone else have this problem ,thanks jade.

Abbey are terribly slow. We're moving house and have waited 6 weeks for the survey to be done! The credit search was done in about a week though.

Go into an Abbey branch, they do they credit search while you are there - and normally an instant decision !!! or 48 hours if it is referred (Different underwriters to broker team (AFI). Valuation done 2 days later - offer the day after. Remortgages normally complete in 3 - 4 weeks. Why wait ????
