  • no we don't in our house, new clothes just seem to be for birthdays or when worn out, but thats just what we do. if there was more disposable income then there probably would be some money put aside.

I have to say, I don't have a budget- for anything other then food. I struggle to keep to this, and this is why its all of my left over money (after bills are paid). But if I save any money and things come in under budget, then I am allowed to spend the money on clothes, and anything else- thing is, we are talking about £1 a day if I am lucky, which can easily be blown if I spend too much in the supermarket the next time I go. (Cleaning products can blow everything out the window)

I have too many items of clothing though, I have worked for several major fashion retailers who gave me great discounts which I spent my then wages on! Only problem is that most of them are so far out of date its embarassing. So now I just wear black.

I don't really budget for clothes but I sort of set out prices in my mind that I'm willing to pay for an item and won't go over that, basically cos of my weight that goes up and down so does my clothes size so I buy most of my clothes from the superstore, you know what I mean around £6 for jeans, £3 for t'shirts, £8 for jumper/jacket. The only branded clothes I wear are hoodies that are from play.com in the sale under £15, oh and once a year a pair of trainers £50.

Since discovering this site I do. I found the spreadsheet on this site where you allocate your wages for every expenditure. I now find I do have money for clothes, beauty products, nights out etc. Whereas before I would just buy/spend what I wanted and never had enough money for the end of the month. I have to say I do not spend a lot on clothes and quality does win over quantity for me. And of course look out for the Sales.

yeah agree about the quality, just little things, for example several people have said get your socks etc from primark, so i did. but i ended up with black bits all over my carpet all the time, its worth spending the extra on well made stuff!

I do think the quality in high street shops is not what it used to be so struggle to buy things that will last more than a year. I have heard it said that you were 20% of your clothes 80% of the time and that is so true for me. I have some favs that I just keep going back to. Also think the media hype on fashion lures us into thinking we need new clothes when we do not really need them. In the monthly fashion magazine there are always pages and pages full of new fashion buys and I always think what about last months fashions buys - are they out of fashion now (not that I buy them but I do like to look!).
