Norton Internet Security 2006 - £22.97

Amazon have lowered the price considerably since I checked last week, was £46.99. Makes it cheaper than the price of the upgrade and student packages.

Even cheaper than OEM versions available, so I doubt it will remain this price for long.

That Ebay link is to an OEM product (no box/manuals etc...) and should not be sold individually.

Also lots of people, me included prefer to buy from proper shops where you know exactly what you are paying for rather than Ebay.

Still very cheap for OEM though.

Unless you have a high powered PC then I would personally avoid NIS 2006, and just renew your subscription with NIS 2005 or the product you are currently using.

NIS 2006 has become such an over bloated system, I had it installed on my PC and there was a noticeable increase in the boot time of my PC, they have also introduced Norton Protection Centre (Security Centre has been taken already!), it will bombard you with adverts about other Norton products (it is possible to disable it in Windows Control Panel, but why you cant decide you don’t want it I don’t know.)

I would personally do a search on the internet for reviews on this before upgrading to it to see if it is worth the upgrade, for me it wasn’t and I have returned to NIS 2005 and renewed the subscription.

Norton software is the devil :( It causes more problems than it solves. It's awful at detecting virus' (or is at least at effective as a free alternative like AVG) and it slows the computer down no end.

If you want the best in antivirus, buy a subscription to kaspersky anti virus :)

I fully agree as I too found Norton resource hungry and problematic. I have been using Avast for over a year in 2 PCs - free and hasn't let me down at all.

  • NTL and Blueyonder users get it all free.

I pay the £25 per month for blueyonder 4mb and you get antivirus, firewall, anti spyware, popup blocker all for free.

    seems ok too.

If you look at post #06 thats the cheapest, unless someone is going to give
me money to use Norton but then I would give a polite NO unless it was
about £200 for me and I could remove Norton after 2minutes.
