Theres nothing more money saving than free!
I'm not a big competition person, I do the odd compo when its free entry and relatively easy to do.
(As in, doesn't require the purchase of items per entry, expensive phone calls or text messages).
A while ago the Sun did a promotion with the launch of Argos' new catalogue (over summer) it was called the 'Big Win' and it looks like we won big....
They advertised (small print) free web entry, instad of the £1 text message, and no cap on the number of entries per household/person. So I spent several days filling in an online form a few thousand times.....
Sat down and worked out that the catalogue cost was around £5400
In total:
I won:
PS2 Slimline
Singstar Popworld Pack
Kodak Z700
Sister won:
Silent night imagine pine bed
Father won:
Royale 3 seater leather sofa
Royale 2 seater leather sofa
Reebok gym package (treadmill, multigym, bike) not in catalogue anymore, was at £999.99
Cooker/oven
Black and decker mouse kit
large george fornby grill
black and decker drill set
Philips Philips pss120 MP3 player
Russel Hobbs Chrome Kettle
Russel Hobbs toaster
Delonghi Slow cooker
Coffee Maker
Silent night Richmond double sleigh bed
Silent night Imagine 'Drift' bed
Kiddies talking books (went to a nephew)
And some other odds and ends
)
Everything short of the kitchen sink.
Thankfully all the stuff we've won was greatfully recieved, such as the new cooker which replaced the 24 year old dinosaur we've been using, not to mention the new sofa's...which replaced the 12 year old tattered ones!
)
My family's probably lucked out over this, but all I can say is.....check to see how many entries the limit is per household.
If it doesn't say, call and check.
If there isn't a limit - check to see if theres a free (online usually) entry system, then fire away.

The odds seemed good, they had a few hundered of the small things each - mp3 players, PS2 games, PS2's and such.
Then 10 to 100 of the larger items - scooters, beds, sofas, fridges, the lot.
I think it was worth the RSI on my hands from repeatedly typing the same info into the same form...clicking the same button over and over.
