No, they might not refund it - I think you have to prove it was missold to you...

But I believe you can cancel it - you have to give 28 days notice and then they don't charge any more. If you need insurance of that type, you can find it cheaper elsewhere.

I don't know if you have done it elsewhere but have you posted a SOA? Although you need help right now...hmmm

I would suggest going into your bank and asking to see someone and actually ask for managed loan (if you think that's what you want).

Other than that, ebay, amazon...part time in a pub?

after 16minutes on hold i was eventually put through to the correct person who basically told me there was nothing HSBC could do! I asked about the managed loan and she said this wasnt a possibility at the moment. Now i have to contact them when i know exactly how much im going to be paid (with a breakdown of tax, National insurance and student loan repayments) so they can work out how much money to take from my account. As for my overdraft she said that there was nothing they could do and i would continue to be charged.

When i asked about cancelling PPI she said i couldnt unless i took out a new loan with them.

    This bank is a joke

Montymoo - I know it's more intimidating than doing it over the phone but I would seriously suggest you go into your branch and talk to someone face to face.

Problem is with HSBC, being such an enormous multinational corporation, there are call centres all over the world and more often than not you end up with someone in India or Philippines who doesn't have the authority to help you with anything, and even if you get through to the actual borrowing call centre in the UK, they are often extremely rigid about the rules.

If you go down to your bank and speak to the manager or just whoever mans the advice desk, more often than not they are allowed some discretion and they will do more to help you than someone on the end of a phone.

By going down to the branch and speaking to someone I managed to get my overdraft extended temporarily which helped no end, and also got some charges refunded, both of which things I got refused for over the phone.

    Hope that helps...

    Thanks James.

I went into the branch originally and they said that they couldnt extend my overdraft and that i had to use the telephone (in the middle of the bank to ring customer services)

Cantdance is right - they are definitely more helpful face to face (usually). Another time I had a rough time financially (1st job out of uni - 2 months between pay packets) I went in and spoke to someone and they temporarily extended my OD so I wouldn't get more charges.

I am sure that if you go in and speak to someone and ask about the managed loan, you're more likely to get somewhere. If they tell you to use the phone, say you have already done that and it's been less than helpful.

On a similar note - don't bother emailing either - that is worse than the phone. I emailed a few weeks ago asking for an appointment at my local branch two weeks later - received msg from the legendary M. Bowden and was told my branch would be in touch in the next few days. They weren't. I didn't get the appointment, couldn't get through to speak to someone at my branch when I called.

So I sent an email with a long complaint in it back to M.Bowden and that was over two weeks ago. I have heard absolutely nothing since.

    That is a sh*t service.

I don't think he actually exists. He's just a computer program that sends out automatic emails...just like the computer program that automatically deducts charges from your account.

I wonder what M Bowden stands for?

    Monotonous

    Bloody-minded
