Being chased for a debt that isn't mine

The last place I rented the water bills were included in the rent, since I've left for some reason there was an outstanding water bill and the letting agency gave my name and new address to the water company, they are now threatening us with the usual rubbish. I've spoken to the letting agency who have told me to pass the bills on to them and they would sort it out. I've given them 3 letters now, and I'm still getting chased by the DRA. Is there anything I can do to stop them?

Do you still have a copy of the contract that states this?? Send a copy of that and a covering letter with the LAs details to the DCA (recorded).
Then write to the LAs (recorded too) that this is the last you expect to hear about this issue and you expect them to ensure the bill is paid ASAP. Copy that to the landlord too.
If your contract does not state the bills were included then you are a bit stuffed.0 -
