we need to purchase a new computer that will be used for internet, kids' schoolwork, games, graphics/artwork and general still/moving images. Budget around £600 (ish). have looked around at different pc's including Dell, but also considering mac - has anyone got opinions on emac (good or bad!) based on own experience?
tips on good deals/packages would also be appreciated
thanks

If you order from the Apple Store & it is for your children. Ask for an educational discount. Save a few quid.

FWIW, I haven't used an eMac but I and all of my family use Macs. They are simply the best. The kids 15 & 10 have no problem using PC's / Windows at school & then using Macs at home.
To make the most of it & it's capabilities broadband internet is very desirable. As it is with any computer.I'm a headhunter. Can you talk?0 -
p.s. to my previous post:
Every wednesday, apple open the refurb store. Decent discounts.

hi, i also use a Mac, an apple powerbook, and reccomend that you purchase a Mac.
have a look at the ibook 12"laptop excellent value for the money also similar spec to the eMac. you have portabillity and it has built in wi-fi(airport) for wireless broadband internet surfing.
i get all the jokes from friends about using a Mac but they just dont know what they are really like until they use one!
they also very very rarely crash and there is not many viruses out there that are written for Mac so you are better protected from hackers etc.
i dont see myself buying another windows pc/laptop.
and remember..........
once you go Mac you never go back, lol

buy the emac, i recently upgraded from an old imac to my powerbook and had to give the emac serious consideration due to the overall value. You cannot beat the emac with an other system in terms of value for money and ease of use.
The kids will love it, easy to use and probably the best bet as most schools use emacs/imacs. Its also more secure, less likely to be infected with viruses and OSX is a lot nicer than windows.0 -
Buy it through apple and get the educational discount, but it may be worth waiting till mid January if rumours of the G5 emac are to be believed
They will replace the existing emacs with G5 one for the same price.I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
