Right now there aren't enough jobs to go around, so it doesn't really matter whether the people who are unemployed want to work or not.

    Absolutely disagree.

If I was unemployed, if I wasn't attending job interviews, sending out CV's, cold calling potential employees, marketing myself, I would do absolutely anything to take in a bit of money.

There are still millions of people in work and the oppertunity to earn from them i.e. dog walking, grass cutting, car washing, window cleaning etc etc etc.

It may not make your firtune, but could be enough to help in the hard times

Have to say that this reports highlights the level of families where they are claiming benefits & saying the family is not working.

It doesn't take into account undisclosed work/cash in hand etc etc.

& trust me, that is a LOT more rife than joe public is aware of. Despite all the fancy media campaigns, people signing on & working is everywhere.
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

I have seen the TV campaign.
Is there some rule that states, if you want to fiddle your benefits, you have to wear a tracksuit?

Funny you should mention it - I 'employ' an unemployed lad to cut my grass and hedges every month for £35 in his hand and he can't get enough of it. He does a fantastic job and even dug out a huge ivy bush one time, which, if anyone knows about ivy, is no easy job. The lad is about the same age as me and used to work at the foundry before being made redundant and then later became a joiner and same happened there too. He's not had much luck. :(

He knocks at my door about every 10 days or so asking if I want anything doing and I hate having to turn him down. :(

I think in today's society, there is an oppertunity to be a handy man.
I've considered for my future retiring early and being my own boss doing these sort of jobs.

You can extend to gutter cleaning, window re-painting, house painint etc etc etc.

If you do a good job, then you will find work
