Contacting Abbey

Our financial advisor has arranged a mortgage with Abbey for us. Apparently they have agreed to lend us the money but are still asking for silly documents to be sent, which was done over a week ago. We first applied 6 weeks ago, and they still have not sent out the surveyor. Is there any point me trying to contact them to push things along? If so, what's the best number to phone?

    What are the 'silly documents'?
If they're asking for them then send them - the valuation isn't going to be instructed until they've approved the mortgage so you're just delaying things.

We have sent everything they have asked for, over a week ago. I was asked for a letter, written by myself, stating that I had no intention of becoming a 'house husband'. I'd have thought it wasn't worth the paper it's written on, but there you go.

That does seem pretty lame of them - probably best to send it in though rather than delaying things.

Surely asking such a question breaches the Sex Discrimination Act???

Well, I wrote the letter and sent it off over a week ago, and still no news. Obviously our vendor won't wait for ever.

this may sound a bit odd but I have seen on industry forums cases where Abbey have dropped all these silly requests when people say this!

Abbey are in a rare old pickle at the moment, I have 4 deals going through with them as we speak and all are a nightmare (admittedly one is a little out of the ordinary). I had to write to them on one case to confirm that one of the borrowers would be living in the property even though this is on the application form!

I don't see why you can't ring them, try 08456 002092 but, if it's anything like the line we brokers ring, put a bit of time aside.
    Happily an ex mortgage broker!

when I took my mortgage out nearly 3 years ago the advisor at the abbey had the authority to authorise it , id did not have to go to underwriters, why can't they do this now
