Could be you trying to encourage others to respond , but safest bet would be to ignor it and telephone the tax office - who do not e-mail people about tax refunds .

Probably a scam. HMRC are still communicating by phone and letter. Although the new PAYE system they are currently rolling out does have a facility to record email addresses presumably for future use.

I think it does but very few computers in HMRC are connected to the internet. This is most def a scam. When I worked there last year if you were entitled to a refund, we would just calculate it and send it out to you with a letter. If there was any missing info, we would send out a letter asking for the info. We never EVER sent an email and we never asked for bank details.

    Definatly a scam

MPPC does have the capacity for email address, but no one has access to it yet.

Some contact centres get access next week, and some service offices start receiving access in a week or so. There is no way they would be inviting further correspondence from taxpayers when they can't do anything on the system.

Yep, definitely a scam. We've all had emails round at work warning about it and I seem to remember seeing something on the BBC website a couple of weeks ago??
