error in friend's pension

it looks like the pension service has made mistakes in a friend's pension. they forgot to add the last few years that they contributed. they started getting their pension this december. should they just write in ? will they backdate the amount difference?

Are they sure its been missed ?, I used to work for the pension service and the system automatically picks up whats on a persons NI record, so mistakes shouldn't happen.
They will backdate if its an offical error ?
Best bet is to ring their pensionn centre and ask them to check the last few years of their NI record.
