my first months spending diary - OMG!

My soa came out that we should be okay, but only just. Every month, like a lot of people on here, I ran out of cash and couldn't work out why. Me and OH have £80 cash each for sundries every month but it never lasts the month so this month I have written down everything I have spent and can now see exactly where it has gone.

£12.26 on chocolate / snacks at work (and I wonder why i can't lose weight!)
£10.80 on magazines
£15.60 on bread / milk that should have come out of the shopping budget
£18.50 on breakfast at work - will have to make time for breakfast at home!
£15.20 on lunch out with friend
the rest was bit and pieces that weren't too bad but I seem to spend a lot of my money on food.

My spending diary consisted of a piece of paper in my purse which worked well for me as I wrote it down as I spent it as I would never remember at the end of the day.
I think this months spending diary has been my second LBM as I now realise where all my cash has been going for the last few years, hopefully now I can do something about it.

  • Wow £80 each on sundries! We have a budget of £40 on non essentials, and that includes clothing, going out etc.
Well done for keeping your diary - do you think it will make you think next time you go to buy breakfast etc?

I am so glad I have done this as I have wasted money that I could have used for something better - a day out or some much - needed clothes.
I have just been paid today and it is a 5 week month so I am on a bit of a mission to have a cash left at the end of the month instead of the usual month left at the end of the money.

I know, I thought £80 each was lots but it never seems to last the month. OH funds his hobby ( old cars / bikes) from this but mine seems to just disappear.
no more work breakfasts for me - I have a freezer full of bread and a cupboard full of cereal so there is no excuse.
