Change of career Full Time Education - Student Loan ??
flip-flop-fly
Well now I have made the decision to go BR and booked my date I have started to think about the future and a change of direction. With job looking very wobbly indeed and not sure from one month to the next i am think about taking matters into my hands and get a formal education as a mature student and an undergraduate degree. I have no qualifications but plenty of relevant experience.
I have been looking at courses and funding, would I be able to get a student tutuion fee loan?
I really want to make a fresh start both financially and career wise,

Yes you would be able to get student loans with no problems. There are several members on this board who have done so.
Though you won't be able to get student bank accounts and the associated student loans and overdrafts.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
Thank you so much for the quick reply, I am going to ring the University today and see if this is a possible option or just a pipe dream. It is nice to start to think about the future with a clear finances and a new career.
A lot nicer than the here and now !
Thanks againBR as of 24th July 20090 -
Thanks for asking that question - i've been wondering the same thing but just trying to get my head around the BR thing first. I would love to go to Uni as a mature student I know exactly what you mean about a complete fresh start. I thought I would be to late to apply this year though - let us know how you get on.
PS - Just to be completely nosey (don't answer if you don't want to) what you thinking of studying?0 -
Would a Degree with OU be a better option?
No travel costs, lunch costs etc
So less likely to need a loan, student or otherwise!!
I have been looking into this myself and an entitled to the fee's costs and a healthy ish study allowance to buy books etc.Auto Discharged on 26 June 2009

I have spoken to the Uni and they advised i get an application in very quick as i could still get a place for 09/10. Which i have done
I am a little unsure weather to pursue this at the moment it is just a case of having the option, i guess I need to get the BR done and then i can try to think about other stuff.
The thing that puts me off is the tution fees, £3245 yes you can get a tution loan and repay it as when you are earning enough but i am only just starting to think that i will soon be debt free i have never been in that position for 20 years. To be honest i never want to see a bank card a credit card an Over draft EVER again, I have been robbing peter to pay paul for so long, getting 0% cards transferring balances, then a consolidation and so on and so on
Its all been a struggle for so long, something I should have faced up to and sorted a long time a go, I haven't gone on shopping spees or holidays just living and then paying for the rest of my life.
At the end of a 3 year full time course I would have debts from £15k to £20k it just does not seem worth it. Also a lot of people are telling me the degree is not worth as much as it used to be as so many people now have them, employers look at experience and industry related Quals. After a 3 year course a lot of what you learn maybe out of date
Well thats my take.....BR as of 24th July 20090 -
Just out of interest what were you thinking of studying?BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0
