Honest opinions of Rosyth, please?

Options
We came up to look at Rosyth a couple of weeks ago, we're hoping to buy a new build there, me, Oh and our two littlies. We really like the houses, but just don't know enough about the area, or anyone to ask. Is it nice/rough?

OH will need to commute into Edinburgh, so we can't be too far away. We're hoping for four beds for less than £185k. I think it's realistic, but not south side of the Forth.

Any help would be gratefully received!

Rosyth is ok ..and would be ideal for commuting in to Edinburgh. There are lots of new builds around dunfermline at the moment. The ones round about tescos in dunfermline are nice too..only problem there the infrastructure has not caught up with the population increase there...dr's schools etc. Dalgety bay would be another option....considered locally a bit more up market than rosyth ;) and it has a train station for edinburgh.

give me a pm if you need any help...I live about two miles from there ;)

  • We have the same lack of infrastructure for new builds by us - one of the reasons fuelling the move, to be honest.

We're still at the early stages of what and where we can afford. Fairylights junior will be starting school in August 2007, little miss fairylights two years later, so schools are kind of important. Looking on the fife spc website now!

Your budget should be ok for a number of areas round dunfermline. Agree schools are important...worth checking.

I lived in dunfermline all my life till i moved to aberdeen for university, i myself would probably not move to rosyth, as it it a wee bit rough and very dead now that the full naval base is not there, i do agree though that inverkiething and dalgetybay would be good choices, and north queensferry is really beautifull. Goog luck, i hope you find somewhere you fall in love with. :D

For most of Central and West Fife, I suspect you are better off looking at Rightmove and Remax.

  • I would definately not move to Rosyth, a bit rough in many places and tired looking.

We moved out of Dunfermline (born and bred) to Dalgety Bay for about several yrs and then moved back as you are really dependent on a car if you live there, ok we know about trains and buses, but if you wanted to quickly pop to B&Q for something, if you didn't have a car, it would take ages! Very little to do as well.

We moved back to the new Eastern Expansion near Tesco in Dunfermline where its ideal and with the 2 new primary schools opening (1 this year and 1 next) for the estimated growth they are well overdue!
We've certainly have a quandry over P1 placement waiting for the new school to be built.

Ideal for commuting to Edinburgh by car/train/bus, leisure facilities very close by, ideal for the supermarket and basically very well placed to get to anywhere.

Your budget seems feasible, certainly if its a property thats already established, the new builds that are popping up now are extortionate!
