Please, please, please PasturesNew could you do the voice-over for DVDs.

Especially if you refer to any actor who appears as a kn0b.

    Please.

    Regards.

You find the work and give me a buzz. I have a lovely speaking voice, ideal for voiceovers.

    :)

    We learned:

Buying a house with no planning permission is dumb
    Estate agents exist in Spain
Small businesses can succeed or fail, in part due to the experience and skill of the owner(s)
English people living or even working abroad sometimes fail to learn the language

What a waste of space this programme was

very true Mobeer, plus I found myself getting frustrated at teh attempt to blame everything on the Spanish

Imagine if a load of foreigners moved to one of our more charming little villages in England built 20 houses without planning on greenbelt land and then when pulled up about it demanded planning claiming we were all a bunch of crooks

Still felt sorry for them mind you

To be fair, while it's not the way we do things, their "built it, then get PP" approach was their main way of doing things .... but 1 by 1, not thousands and whole developments I guess.

The Spanish can see the Brits coming a mile off. Whether its selling them homes or fitting them up with Eeeenglish bars etc. Why on earth would you buy a bar/rent a bar in a resort which is already flooded with them? ROTFL

I wonder if you can get a decent spread of tapas and a good bottle of Rioja Crianza in any of them or is it hollands pies, chips n gravy?

Indeed. Much of Spain is rotten with corruption. You have district officials and the local big cheeses, the major families, running their own little fifedoms and if you arent in with them and/or pay them tribute, you will have a hard time.

It's exactly the same in Thailand. I saw dozens of guys who came for a holiday for two weeks and felt like what we call 'holiday millionnaires'. They decide to stay on, buy a crappy bar and then realise what an empty sham it all is. They then become bitter - invariably at themselves, although they express it towards the locals - broke and the more extreme cases end up as what we euphemestically used to call 'Pattaya Jumpers', throwing themselves off the balcony of their high rise one room slum apartment, after their hooker girlfriend had left them when she realised he didnt have any money after all.

During my time in Thailand, there was at least one Jumper a week, usually from the UK, Germany or Scandinavia.

Thats an interesting insight into the shallow existence of both bar girls and their "boyfriends" in Thailand. Not somewhere that appeals.
