Hi all after suffering terrible abdominal pains which my doctor thought was heartburn, ive just come out of a 5 day unscheduled stay in hospital having been diagnosed with gall stones and inflammation of the gall bladder which will have to be removed.
I now need to stick to a low fat diet but when i got out of hospital yesterday and in the evening popped to sainsburys(which is the nearest shop as i didnt want to travel too far) to find things to eat,we spent about £30 on not very much.
Can i have some opinions please.I want to eat lots of fruit, nibbly things, sandwiches and soup, i dont feel like anything too "heavy"
many thanks

Hi, some tips for reducing fat in your diet (mine are from a weightloss point of view though):
When cooking from scratch and frying off onions etc for a sauce use a small amount of stock instead of oil.
When cooking mince, drain off the fat before continuing adding other items.
There are lots of soup recipes about on OS - many of which are low fat - just avoid the ones that say add cream- start off with cooking onions in stock instead of oil to reduce the fat further.

As for snacks and nibbles - someone on the Losing weight OS had a recipe for spicy baked chickpeas? Or popcorn is low fat and cheap to buy popping corn from supermarket/health shop.
Here's some cheap healthy snack ideas:

For sandwiches, you could make your own hummous, that way you get to check how much oil you put in and gradually reduce it each time as you get used to it?

I eat steamed fish or baked chicken breast with vegetables.
For fruit - check out Aldi super six if you have an Aldi nearby
And boiled sweets and many fruit gums are virtually fat free too (as long as calories don't matter to much for you).
Hopefully that will give you a few ideas - and hopefully some others will be able to help tooworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
In terms of saving a little money, markets are always a good bargain for your fruit and veg and fish and meat if you feel up to eating those. They seem a lot cheaper than supermarkets where i am and i also like a good nosy round the market too!0
