Buying name TITLES (Sir/Lord/Earl/Count etc.) for a £200 fee - can you get them free?

Hi there.
Looking at THIS website, I see they offer titles to go behind your name (Sir/Lord/Earl/Lady etc.) for £200. Does anyone know if there is a free way to do this? Surely there must be a way, if this company can do it, to register yourself with a title, even if it is for a fee, directly through the Government?
Any tips appreciated! Thanks.

Change your name by deed poll. Your first name becomes Lord etc (its how a lot of these scam companies do it!)
Most of them relate to owning a piece of land - I bought my grandfather a square yard in Scotland - a scottish land owner is a Laird and the English equivilant is a Lord - so he is now a Lord and cost me £25!0 -
I got a piece of land in scotland too - gave it to my now ex for him to become a laird. Paid £25 but found web sites selling it for over £500!
After reseach, I found out this is not an legal way of becoming a laird so only worth it for the laugh really.2012 wins approx £11,000 including 5k to spend on a holiday :j0 -
Thanks for the tips. How does one go about buying a piece of land? And if you have a privately owned house do you not already own enough land to merit a "Laird" title?

I got my 'land' on ebay but lastminute.com sells it.
Certain areas (large estates) in Scotland to belong to lairds.... the title is meant to go with the estate so they sell 1ft squares of the land in order for the owner to use the title of 'laird'; however this is not legal as you are not the 'registered' owner of the land so you dont get the title. Makes a nice gift tho, as long as its not taken too seriously.2012 wins approx £11,000 including 5k to spend on a holiday :j0 -
