2 jobs - tax forms

Hi everyone,
Could anyone help me?
After finishing university, I have been working at job 1 for 9 months, then I managed to get another job (job 2). Instead of just leaving job 1 I decided to work 1 day a week there as job 2 is only an internship for 3 months. I work 4 days a week at job 2.

What I am asking is, is there any tax forms I can fill in to prevent me getting taxed to high heaven, as I will still be earning in the 20% tax threshold, even with the 2 jobs? I have already filled in a p46 and stated that I have another job.

I have already asked friends and family and nobody seems to have a clue, I would really hate to get put on emergency tax as I start University again in September.

A huge thanks in advance

El

    tax is about detail but..

when did you start the second job.. this tax year or last?
how much did you earn last year...was you tax corrrect?

if your total earnings per month are less than 539 per month then you shouldn't need to pay any tax... however, your second job will almost certainly put you on BR (i.e. 20% straight deduction)... you can contact the HMRC and ask them to spread your personal allowance between the two jobs.

Thanks Clapton, My new job was started a week ago, and as for my old job i am almost certain i was taxed correctly each month last tax year and this tax year. So basically I have just got to make sure both my pay slips have a BR code on them, if not contact the HMRC?!

    No

A normal (single job) person will have a tax code of 647L which means you can earn 6475 per annum before any tax is charged.

BR means you get taxed on all your earning at 20% (bad news).

Usually, when you start a second job they will put you on BR because they asssume you are earning more than 6475 (per annum) in your first job and that your 647L code is being applied there.) So BR on the second job would be correct.
However, if you are earning less than that then you will end up over taxed.

What is your tax code for your first job?

Why are you sure you were taxe correctly last year... what was your final tax code last year?
