hi,i,am self employed and was thinking of letting my wife come into work with me,to tidy up and do a bit of labouring,i,m of the understanding i can pay her £95 a week without paying tax,is this right and could i take my 16 year old son in who,s stayed on at school in the same way,just so hes earning a bit of money for himself

I did this when I had my own business as well.
However, if you employ your son and he is still at school, does the working regulations not apply differently

£95.00 is the point at which national insurance becomes due.
£124.00 is the point at which tax becomes due. (based on a normal code of 647LHe's not an accountant - he's a charlatan0 -

Lots of 16 year old's have part time jobs whilst in full time non advanced education and Child benefit is not affected. Neither is entitlement to Educational Maintenance allowance - http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLearning/14To19/MoneyToLearn/EMA/DG_066951
