How does the RTLU deal with IPA?

Hello there, just wondered if anyone can help me. I went BR in Dec 08 and was given an IPA to pay. This week I recieved a letter from the OR saying that the RTLU will be dealing with my case from now onwards. I understand that this just means that they have finished investigating my circumstances and now the RTLU will deal with any further matters.

This all sounds fine to me however, I've recently had a salary increase at work and wondered if anyone has gone through the process of informing the RTLU and what I should expect. Would they just be interested in my my expenses that have changed since the last IPA or would they start reassessing my SOA from fresh? I don't think I can handle the stress of waiting every day sweating on the number that will come through the post again - (all because I worked hard and got rewarded for it!)

Also I am confused about the nil tax code...I've never seen this on my payslip (is it meant to be NT?) how would this affect me?

It is important that you tell them if you have had a salary increase , I think it is 21 days , but not sure they are that strict , I got away with more than 21 days , nothing was said about it , after I told them of my change in income

When you went BR, and agreed to an IPA you agreed to inform them of any change.

It does not matter how hard you work, thats what you agreed.

OK that sounds hard, but thats the facts, if you continue to think on the lines you are it will do your head in.

You need to take a step back an think, where would you be now if you had not gone BR.

The answer is a lot worse of;)

as for your increase in income, they will only be able to claim 50-70%, there are certain times that means you will be no better of if you say go from 50 to 70 %, but you dont give enough info for me to know that.

The bottem line is, if your income increases, you must declare it, but you also can ammend your expenses if they have increased at any time, not just if your income goes up.

Its a two way street, if you see it that way.

As you only went BR in DEC its unlikely your outgoings have gone up that much, but if your work related expenses have increased, make sure they are offset against your increase in income.

If you keep looking at youor IPA as a negative, it will be a LONG 36 months.

But you will still be better of than you where before.;)

Regarding the nil tax code, it is likely that you never got one. As you went BR in December, by the time HMRC had changed you code, there would probably only be Feb & March which they could collect. Argument is that it's not worth setting up a Nil Tax Code for IPA for a few months (they only last to the end of the tax year), so the OR wil probably collect the money from HMRC directly.
