Salad spinners?

We finally managed to grow a decent and continuous crop of lettuces this year :j.

Ok...basically, I'm lazy and usually I am holding a baby/toddler in my arms...so in view of those two fascinating facts is there anything that would aid me in my lettuce washing/drying needs? Needs to happen daily as we eat salad every day.

Lakeland seem to have a good slald spinner but it's £15  - I am actually willing to pay that as I know if it's good it will get daily use.

i always thought they were a real silly gimmick until i saw jamie oliver rave about them.

i bought a cheapo (i think matalan) one and its fab, gets loads of water out of leaves so your salad seems crisper and not soggy :D

    go for it!!

Not sure if this helps, but you have just brought back brilliant memories for me.
Many years ago i went on holiday with my grandparents, and we were having lettuce, nan washed it and piled it into a t towel for grandad to spin in the air to get the water out ;), and yup, it shout out all over the field we were camping in, which we was'nt surprised about as he was as daft as a brush lol.
Sorry i can't be of much help, but it took me back to such happy times.

They are excellent, I wouldnt be without mine, I would shop about as I only paid about £4 for mine I think, not sure where from though, it could have been Boyes or Wilkinsons.

We had one, hardly ever used it, and it just took up space in the kitchen cupboard.

Another vote for Deborah's daft grandad's tea towel. Simply dabbing the leaves dry between a folded clean dry one is a little more "user friendly", though.

Must be this time of year! I logged onto MSE to post and ask about salad spinners, pressed new posts and your post was top!!!

I am also looking for one, we bought one a few years and you had to manually spin it and it used to shoot all over the work surface, also really difficult to take apart for cleaning.

I have been looking at the Oxo one with a pump, available in Lakeland or Amazon for about £18!!!!! It has good reviews but if anyone else has a better one.

    Thanks

i still use the whizzing teatowel method - over my garden lettuce of course :-)
  • I've got one - I think its fantastic.I never would have bought one but my SIL bought it in John Lewis (and I bet it wasn't cheap) and then decided to buy a smaller one - so lucky me got the old one.

It does take up a lot of room in the cupboard, but much better than the tea towel method.

I just use the tea towel method. It's a lot cheaper and takes up less cupboard space! :)

I bought one from my local Tesco - they must be bringing in a new range as the first one was all white and cost £3.00-odd and then I saw them in the seasonal aisle (rather than homeware) and it was either a purple or green lid and cost £1.50. Bargain. Even if I hardly use it at least it didn't cost a fortune!!!
Go check out your Tescos - although mine is a large store so might not be in the small ones.

Salad spinners are brilliant, way better than tea towels. I'm sure you can find one for less than £15.
