Low cost wedding in Tuscany

Options
Hi everyone,

My boyfriend proposed to me 3 weeks ago, so we are now in the very early stages of planning our wedding.:j:beer::T:j:beer::T

(I'm a bit excited - can you tell?)

We are hoping to get married in Italy, probably Tuscany, but we haven't got much further than that yet!

Our budget is £7,000 for everything, so I would say, once dresses, suits and rings have been bought, that will leave us with £5,000 for the wedding and reception in italy.

Inital research suggests there are 3 main ways to do it (PLEASE let me know if you can think of more xx)
- hire large villa and have reception there
- have 'english' style wedding at a hotel
- have a meal at a restaurant

At first, I liked the idea of hiring a villa and doing a self catering BBQ, but OH is not keen on that - he thinks we should be able to relax and enjoy the day, not worrying about uncle wally setting fire to something with the BBQ! Think he has a point.....

Anyway, I think I'm rambling, but could anyone give me an ideas about restaurants you can 'hire' for a wedding reception, or hotels which do the same and don't cost the earth?!?

Any other general advice on getting married in Italy would also be very much appreciated as I'm so new to this!

PS we are thinking of inviting around 50 people, so I think our budget for the wedding breakfast would need to be around £50 / €50.

Thanks for your anticipated help!

    Hi Danni

    Firstly, congratulations!

I would advise you read this thoroughly: http://ukinitaly.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/living-in-italy/how-register-marriage/ - as I wanted to get married in Spain and found out I couldn't!

    Good luck xx

Congratulations. Tuscany, how romantic. I love the villa idea. Could you stretch to hiring waiters/caterers?
  • Hi Danii,
    Congratulations!!!
    Tuscany is a beautiful place.
Below is a link to an intersting forum about weddings near Lucca, in Tuscany. Hope they're useful. I can recommend the Casino in Bagni di Lucca - absolutely stunning setting. THe whole area around Bagni di Lucca is wonderful.
Take a look at the italymag website - they have a whole forum on weddings in Italy.
    Good luck with the planning.

Sounds fabulous! I love the villa idea best - but I agree you don't want to be stressed out catering for people. Having caterers in the villa could be lovely tho.
  • I agree with Ruthie5,having the villa or other self catering place and getting caterers in is a fab way to save money on a great venue and still get treated like royalty on your day.Thats what I am doing and my budget started at £7k too(down to £6k now).If you book the villa for a week and have the guests arrive for the wedding at the start of the week and leave the next day you could have the remainder of the stay as your honeymoon.

I'm a wedding planner in Bagni di Lucca. I agree with CatherineChicken the casino is a beautiful place to get married.

  • Wow, that was a good deal! We got married in Tuscany with a minibudget of 5000 euros. It also included our accommodation for a week and the planners' fee. The agency that helped us stick to our budget was Boutique Events.
