Where can I get cheap veg seeds in Belfast? I want to grow salad leaves (it is probably too late to sow anything else but I am happy to be corrected on this!).

Thanks

  • Lidl still do seeds as do B&Q, Homebase, etc..etc..... There all much of a muchness price wise I've found..

Not too late to plant other things either... just check the packet and in my view they only give it as a guide... If your a month out... don't worry... give it a try. I've only just planted Peas & carrots.... Did the same thing last year and they work out very well... taste of the Carrots were Sooooooooooo much better.

Also at some of the local Markets you may find some pre-emerged plants like lettuce, beans, peas, Beetroot. etc..etc... good to plant crops at different times so everything doesn't all ripen at the same time.

Good luck and remember ... Water them well

Not in belfast, but I used this seller on ebay this year and have been very happy with results : http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/Premier-Seeds-Direct

They have brief instructions on the listing re planting. However, you can still plant quite a lot of things. Have a look at this site for a calendar http://www.savvygardener.com/Features/veg_garden_calendar.html

    hope that helps

Thanks for the tips! I ordered some salad seeds from that eBay seller LMac recommended, looks like a very professional site and I love the way they give little hints and tips on growing!

warmshands.coldheart, I hadn't thought about sowing anything else but I might now! I had a disaster trying to grow carrots and peas (among other things) last year and was very disheartened. Maybe they just drowned with the wet summer that we had!!

p.s. LMac, I was getting all excited about that calendar but then saw that it is for Kansas, I would hazard a guess that their climate is much warmer than ours i.e. they can grow melons!!! :rotfl: at the thought of trying to grow melons in Belfast! Oh to have a tropical climate, sigh...

Actually I tried to grow melons this year! They got quite big as well. :D But then they died. Don't know what happened, but several other plants died too, so it must have been something I was doing!:o
